Dogs of the Month

I really enjoyed photographing Grace and Johnny Utah at Chautauqua. Capturing their wild antics - and brief, quiet moments in between - was such a joy. There’s something incredibly satisfying about creating images of dogs whose simple beauty stands out against a natural backdrop of tall grasses and mountain views. Being able to turn those moments into meaningful artwork that their parents will cherish makes the experience even more special.

Here is what their parents have to say about them:

“Grace and Johnny Utah came into our lives through Grey Ghost Weimaraner Rescue, an organization we now proudly volunteer for. After losing our Weimaraner, Ranger, we applied to GGWR hoping to adopt again when the time felt right—though we certainly didn’t think we were ready yet. A few months later, we received a call about a six‑month‑old Weimaraner named Grace, which also happens to be our last name. It felt like a sign. Not long after adopting Grace, we spotted a post on the GGWR Instagram about a surrendered litter of puppies. We had jokingly said that if the rescue ever had puppies, we’d adopt one, and before we could overthink it, we were driving to Pueblo. Grace chose a puppy named Blue, who became Johnny Utah. Today, Grace and Johnny Utah are inseparable—best friends who love their daily hikes and squeezing together into a dog bed meant for one. Where you find Grace, you’ll always find Johnny Utah. We’re incredibly fortunate to have them, as they bring nonstop joy into our lives, sprinkled with just the right amount of chaos.”
