Let us answer your questions!

What style of photographer are you?

My style of photography has been described as natural, easygoing, fun and artistic.  I combine lifestyle, documentary, and relaxed traditional photography so you get a variety of genuine, natural images along with relaxed posed images. I like to get images of your pet in a variety of poses, including close-ups, full body images and, depending on your dog, some action shots.  If you choose to be in some of the images with your dog, I’ll also get images of you engaging with and loving up on your best friend.

My goal will be to get plenty of images of your pet just being herself and a few of her looking into the camera for a classic shot.  The images from your session will capture a moment in time and will be works of art that you love having now and will always have to remember your dog many years from now.  Our pets are family and we should honor them!

What’s included in my session?

Your session includes a fun portrait session experience that lasts about an hour. Within two weeks we will meet for an image reveal and order session. I’ll present you with at least 30 images for you to choose from. You can choose prints, wall art, albums, image boxes or digital files for an additional cost. I offer both Ala Carte Options and Custom Packages.

How much experience do you have photographing dogs?

Lots!!  I’ve been photographing dogs since 2007 and have never had a dog I couldn’t photograph.  I am the lead photographer at Longmont Humane Society and as of March 2020 I have photographed over 3,300 dogs just for them.  That doesn’t include my many commission clients.  I’ve worked with many types of dogs and different types of behavior and adjust my approach depending on your dog.

Where will my session be held?

I have carefully selected several outdoor locations in and around Boulder that provide great scenery and lighting.  If you have a place that is special to you, I am open to your suggestions.  Sessions can also be done at your home and my studio will accommodate small families, kids and pets

How long will my session last?

Sessions last about an hour.  Some sessions can last a little longer if your dog is shy and needs time to warm up.  Generally, I get them done in an hour or less.

What will my session be like?

Your session will be fun and relaxed!  I will start by greeting your pet and letting her sniff my camera and gear so she gets to know me.  We will wander around our location and stop at several spots to take some photos.

We’ll engage in some playing and action shots and your pet will be rewarded with lots of treats and scratches! If your dog needs a break, we’ll take breaks.  My sessions are really fun for dogs and I work them by engaging them in fun activities.  Most dogs go home and take a really long nap!

What time of day should we do our photo session?

The best time for optimal light is late in the day, early evening right before sunset. This provides us with flattering light so you and/or your pet will look your best.

Can I be in some of the photos with my pet?

Yes!  I love it when pet parents get into some of the photos. I’ll gently guide you to interact with your pet to capture his unique expressions.  If you are nervous in front of the camera, don’t worry, I can help with that!

What should I wear?

You should wear clothing that you are comfortable wearing and feel good in.  Wear clothing that expresses who you are.  Lifestyle sessions are meant to be authentic so wear things that represent your style.   It’s great to dress up if you want to but it’s not necessary. Neutral tones, similar tones, earth tones and denim look great. Don’t choose clothing with logos or graphic tees.  Be sure clothes are wrinkle, lint and fur free. I can help you with more specific questions if you have them.

My dog won’t sit still and has tons of energy.  I don’t think we could ever do a photo session.  Can you help?

Yes!  I’ve learned a lot over the years about how to get the attention of different dog personalities.  One thing that can help is if you exercise your dog right before our session.  Then, I have lots of tricks to get them to stop and look.  I’ll also get plenty of images of your dog just being himself.

My dog is super shy and doesn’t like strangers.  Can you help?

Yes!  I have lots of experience with shy dogs. I had two shy dogs of my own for over 10 years.  I’ll take extra time with your pet so they get comfortable with me and my camera.  Some shy dogs do better having a portrait session at home.  We can discuss that option.  I also have a long lens so I can give her space until she’s ready for her close up!

My dog has to be on a leash but I don’t want his leash in all of his photos.  Now what?

Leashes are essential to keeping your pet safe.  For lots of your images, having the leash in the photo can be okay, for example if the photo is of you walking with your dog.  But I can also select some of the best images and edit the leash out of the image

Do you photograph other types of pets?

Yes!  I also photograph cats, horses, or any other pets you may have.

When do I get to see my photos?

We will schedule your image reveal and ordering session within two weeks of your photo session.  I will first hand select the images that will be in your collection. Those images will have basic edits completed before we review them together and make your final selections.

How much does all of this cost?

Most of my clients spend between $700 and $2,000. Some spend less, some spend more. See my session info page for investment information. Contact me for all the details.

How do I book you?
